Draft Two, Book Four of The Secret Portal

This was the final story I wrote in this draft. Narrated by Nellie this time, I called this one Forced Out of the Field. I can't believe I thought these puns were good.

Anyway, this book start where Telepath left off: the gang being left and Liz's house. However, they seem to have forgotten Eli's threat somehow, and they just go inside and play games without telling the family they may be in danger.

However, it actually wasn't that dangerous. Eli's brother Ronald Warlock appears and switches up everyone's powers. And for some reason this devolves into pure chaos. I understand Liz, Charles, Carla, and George being caught off-guard because they've had their powers forever, but everyone else just found out they had powers either a couple weeks ago or this very day.

Anyways, Carla pulls up "Super-net" which apparently can track any sorcerer ever. She finds this Ronald Warlock in Phoenix, Arizona, and I believe that this is the first time I ever did "research" for a book, because I had to Google what time Arizona would be in relation to Dallas. Although I don't know why I had to include that.

Anyhoo, they find Ronald and his wife Bonnie, an enchantress, at a burger place, and the two of them send everyone across the country in pairs. And now their powers are gone, so it doesn't make sense why they were switched in the first place. Nellie is paired with Mikey, and they easily manage to get in contact with everyone else either via text or handy-dandy magic notes.

Anyways, Nellie and Mikey discover that they have to go west to the nearest elementary school, where there's a portal. Once on the other side of the portal, they will have to cross a rainbow bridge to get back to the house.

However, when Nellie and Mikey go to the school, they are immediately greeted by a man called Tim who claims to be the principal and gives them In-School Suspension for stealing some bikes, despite this being a school holiday. I figure Tim was supposed to be another sorcerer, exclusively because if you haven't noticed, the sorcerers have been called Quincy, William, Eli, Ronald, and now Tim, which is just in QWERT keyboard order. I thought I was so clever.

And this is where the story ends because I either go writer's block or bored by the plot. Or both. Forced Out of the Field is about the same length as Morph Into Trouble, and it wasn't even done yet, although I have a feeling this is because this book changed plot three times, so of course it's longer.

Like I said in a previous blog post, I had plans for a huge series, each with terrible titles and a million characters. However, I did eventually get bored of this idea, and decided to start completely from scratch once again.

Interesting to look back and see how much you have grown as a writer. Looking forward to hearing how you revamped your childhood novel.
