Draft Two, Book One of The Secret Portal

When I was going into middle school, I received a laptop.

Naturally, the first thing I did on it was open a Word document and begin writing the second draft of The Secret Portal. This draft consisted of four "books" before I finally stopped.

I had big plans for this series--it was going to be long. I planned to have dozens of books in the series, and even made a PowerPoint outlining the entire series. I was going to have a giant ensemble cast of characters, each with their own unique power. Now, The Secret Portal has an ensemble cast, but Draft Two made my current draft look like it has a small cast.

I also planned to give each book a different narrator, as well as a subtitle that was a pun about the narrator's powers. God, I am glad this died.

The first book in this series was nearly five thousand words long, so it's basically still a short story. I decided to call it Teleportal, which is a pretty tame title for this Draft. This is where I started to make changes to Draft One. Most notably were the name changes.

The minor character of Alexia and Aurora's teacher went from Mrs. Kat to Mrs. Rogers. Alexia and Aurora's surnames became the infinitely better Morgan and Austin respectively. Ted became Charles, Lizzy was shortened to Liz, and Carly became Carla. Liz and Charles’ surname changed to Gray. Carla and George gained the last name Randall, and Warlock LV became the less stupid but still stupid (drumroll) Quincy Warlock.

I moved Alexia and Aurora's home town from Little Rock, Arkansas to Dallas, Texas. I decided to call the realm on the other side of the portal Cloud Town, which is my most creative place name to date.

I also decided to change the powers of Charles, George, and Carla to super-strength, super-speed, and levitation respectively. I should clarify Carla's power was a simple form of telekinesis, where she could levitate other objects, not herself.

Most of the plot stayed the same, even the stupid metal detector. It has what you would expect, immature stylistic choices, bad fonts, incorrect grammar if Word didn’t catch it, interrobangs in rapid succession, all caps, you get the gist. And while this Draft is technically better written than the first, it lacks the charm, and I actually prefer reading the first draft than whatever this garbage is.

One change I did make to the plot was that it took place on Alexia's birthday. This will be relevant later.
