Draft One of The Secret Portal

First of all, I have no idea where my idea for last names came from. Redines? Flite? Majg? I don't think those are real names. But 10-year-old me apparently thought that these were okay.

Part of the story I left out in my initial summary was that I had a MacGuffin, that being, a metal detector. Alexia originally had a metal detector on her, for reasons I don't even think 10-year-old me knew. Their encounter with the evil sorcerer featured him threatening to kill them if they didn't give him the metal detector. The sorcerer apparently wanted to use the metal detector to destroy the portal, although his motivations of doing so are unknown.

The sorcerer was also called "Warlock LV" (read Warlock the fifty-fifth), and I honestly think this was just 10y/o me flexing on the fact that she knew Roman numerals.

When it came to developing the powers of these characters, only Alexia and Aurora's powers of teleportation and telepathy have stayed with them over the years, and their counterparts in my current draft still have these powers. In Draft One, Lizzy had X-ray vision, Ted had super-hearing, and George had super-strength, which are all powers that at least make some sense. Carly, however, was not as lucky. 10y/o me decided to give her "the ability to pick up a writing utensil with her mind and write with it." Poor Carly has a super-specific power that is only mildly convenient.

(Although being able to not use my hands while writing could save my wrist a lot of pain when it comes to taking notes in college, however.)

Draft One of The Secret Portal ends with Alexia and Aurora going back home with the knowledge that their friends and family have powers as well. I ended it on a cliffhanger in which Alexia's sister Kelly, her friend Nellie, and Aurora's brother Julian all go through the portal themselves.

My fourth grade class originally had us outline a story told in the third person, and I planned to make this story the sequel, titled The Next Sorcerer. I did write this, but I have no idea where it ended up.

Honestly, I find looking back at Draft One to be inspiring. I laugh at it now, because I find it stupid, but it also shows how far my journey has come. I also find it interesting to talk about how this story evolved over time, since it's mostly unrecognizable now, with only a few elements staying the same.
