Chapter 3
It was nearly noon by the time Anahi awoke again. Classes weren't until tomorrow; today was the day of the tour.
She found pancakes at the end of her bed, exactly how she liked them. She reached over, grabbed the plate, and starting eating.
Ryan was already up, eating her own breakfast. "Good morning, Anahi," she said. "Sleep well?"
"Yeah," Anahi muttered. "I just don't do mornings."
"It's actually the afternoon," Marlis muttered. "Honestly, Rosario, I thought you were smart."
Anahi turned around and glared at her roommate. "What about Ryan?"
Marlis snorted. "With her mother, I doubt she's smart." She took a big bite out of the apple in her hand. She held up the red fruit. "What is it, McGuire? Do you want it?"
Ryan’s eyes widened. She quickly looked away.
Marlis smirked and took another bite.
Anahi looked from Marlis to Ryan’s. "What am I missing?"
Ryan covered her face. Marlis got up and walked into her bathroom. Anahi glanced over at Ryan. "What's wrong?" she asked, walking over to her roommate's bed. "You can trust me."
Ryan looked up. "Doesn't matter, Anahi." She stood up slowly and also went into her bathroom.
Anahi watched her go. She thought about why Ryan was acting secretive, but then she remembered that she had a secret of her own.

Around 1:30, the fairy godmothers arrived.
Ryan’s fairy godmother, Kristy, had violet curls and dark blue eyes. Marlis’ fairy godmother, Cate, had golden hair and purple eyes. Both were in their early forties, so Audrey looked younger than she actually was.
Marlis glared at Audrey suspiciously, like her young age bothered her. But Audrey just smiled like she didn't notice.
The girls split up into three different directions by the time they reached the bottom of the stairs. Anahi followed Audrey into a long hall.
"This is the Charms hall," said Audrey. "You learn spell casting, how to resist charms or curses put on you, counterspells, and how to identify a frog from real frog to prince."
Anahi wasn't sure she heard that correctly. "Frog or Prince?"
Audrey shrugged. "Apparently a little something happened about twenty years ago. A girl kissed a frog, and he turned out to be a prince. But apparently word spread, and girls twelve and under started kissing frogs and getting salmonella poisoning, so it became a requirement to teach at all schools."
Anahi nodded, wondering about the Charms classes.
Could this be the end of her worries?
A few halls later, Audrey led Anahi to two doors.
"Inside is the ballroom," Audrey explained. "There you learn about balls, obviously. The boys from Charming House's Academy for Royal Men, or C.H.A.R.M., sometimes come here, or we go there so we can practice together."
Anahi nodded, slightly nervous. She wasn't expecting to see any boys this year. And dance with them? She didn't know how! Well, she did, but she knew she was terrible.
Audrey showed her all the halls that contained her classes, along with the Olympic-size dining room and the library. Anahi herself had a giant library at her castle, but it was a broom closet compared to this one.
Audrey led Anahi in a big circle until they were just a turn away from the stairs leading back to her chambers. "I hope you enjoyed the tour. Dinner will be served at six." She smiled one last time and disappeared.
Anahi looked at the empty spot in front of her. Even though Audrey was too perky, Anahi was starting to see a friendship growing between them in the future. Unlike Marlis Haggard. She would never be friends with that girl in her life.
Sighing, Anahi turned the corner only to smack right into another body. She fell to the floor. "Hey!"
The other girl was also on the floor. But what was strange about her was the oversized blue hoodie in a warm royal castle.
"Sorry...." the girl murmured.
"It's okay," said Anahi, rising to her feet. "I'm Anahi Rosario. You from up north?" she asked, gesturing at the hoodie.
"Yes," said the girl, not getting, or even looking, up. "It is my dad's."
"Oh," Anahi said, nodding. "What's your name?"
"Katya," she said, finally glancing up. "Katya Zima-Frost."
Anahi noted her rough accent. She started wondering how many different accents she’d hear in her time at M.A.G.I.C. "Nice to meet you, Katya."
"You, too."
Katya started awkwardly trying to get up, but the giant hoodie was making it hard. Anahi reached out a hand to help her. "Hey, come--"
"Don't touch me!" Katya suddenly shrieked, hopping to her feet and racing down the hall. Anahi stared after her.
"What the hell was that?" she asked to no one, then mentally slapped herself for saying a “non-princess appropriate” word.
I'm glad I combined the frog idea into the normal charms class instead of giving it its own separate thing like I did in MARG.
