Well, here's the plot.
Chapter Two
“Indigo, why would a mirror swirl?”
“I cannot find the answer to your question.”
Very helpful.
I thought about calling to Kelli, but I didn’t think she’d hear me from downstairs. Instead, I crept towards the mirror, ever so slowly.
I couldn’t see my reflection--the glass was spinning too fast-- but I saw something. It looked like a person…
I screamed and jumped to the floor, covering my head as a blinding light flooded my room. When the light disappeared, I peaked out from behind my fingers. Sure enough, a person was lying on the floor in front of the mirror. I gasped as I recognized her.
She was wearing a black hoodie that was torn to tatters. Her feet were bare and filthy. Her hands were scratched up, her arm was bleeding with a large gash on it, and there was a bandage around her head. There were bags under her eyes and her face was covered in smoke. Her blue eyes were bloodshot, her glasses askew, and her strawberry-blond hair was messy.
She was me.
The girl sat up dizzily. She looked up and made eye contact with me. “Tiffany!” she said standing up and rushing over to me. She helped me to my feet. “Listen to me, right now!”
“Indigo?” I said. “How many people are in this room?”
“I’m reading two lifesigns.”
“And who are they?”
“One is Tiffany Isaac, and the other is Tiffany Isaac.”
“Of course they will both read as Tiffany Isaac!” said the girl. “I’m you!”
“That’s impossible!” I said. “If you were me, you would know that I love science, and know that this is scientifically impossible!”
“I’m from the future!” the other me blurted out. “And I have to tell you--”
“The future?” I interrupted. “Prove it!”
“I can’t!” said Future Tiffany. “But you have to believe me! You--”
“What is it, like ten years from now we’ll be in an apocalypse?” I said, gesturing to her clothes.
“Do I look twenty-six!?” Future Tiffany snapped. “I’m not from ten years in the future! I’m actually from next Thursday morning. Please, Tiffany!”
“What?” I said. “Prove it!”
“Your parents are in Africa and won’t be home until next Saturday,” she said. “Your friend Kelli Peterson is downstairs eating all the cinnamon rolls, and she just got asked out by Jason Cray!”
I stared at her for a second. “I guess I believe you,” I muttered, reluctantly. “Actually! This is cool! I mean, I never thought time travel would be possible in the 2060s! Maybe in the ‘90s, or ‘80s, but not this soon! How did--” Future Tiffany slapped her hand over my mouth.
“Shut up!” Her hand seemed to spark. “Listen! I don’t have enough time! I’m trying to help you! If you don’t want this to happen to you listen! Just remember, Tiffany, don’t--” Then she was glowing everywhere, and her words weren’t audible. She was pulled away from me and was sucked into the mirror.
I stood there for a second in silence. Future Tiffany’s last words to me were “Just remember Tiffany, don’t--” What did she mean?
Oh, no.
Her eyes were bloodshot and had bags under them. Her was filthy, and her clothes were tattered. She had a bandage wrapped around her head and her hands were all scratched up.
“Just remember, Tiffany, don’t--”
I was going to cause the apocalypse.
And it was going to be between now, and next Thursday morning.
*****
I raced downstairs and into the kitchen. “Kelli!”
Kelli was in the kitchen, eating a cinnamon roll. Just like Future Tiffany said. “Tiff? What is it?”
“I got a message from the future!” I said, panting.
Kelli laughed and bit into the cinnamon roll. “Really, Tiff, you have to make your jokes make since.”
“It’s not a joke!” I said, slapping the cinnamon roll out of her hand. “What do you think took me so long? Didn’t you hear me talking, or screaming?”
Kelli pursed her lips. “Okay, Tiff, I got a message from Jason, and he wants to take me to the old Go Kart place, you know the one that hasn’t been open since 2028? I heard that the Go Karts are still there, and still work, and you know how much I love old tech, so, gotta go. Bye, Tiff!” Then she turned and raced out the front door.
Kelli didn’t believe me?
Well, whatever she thinks, I will stop me starting the apocalypse. And I have until next Thursday morning.
I feel like I could've made the interaction more compelling. Oh, well.
