Short Story Excerpt: Natalie the Necklace Fairy - Pt6

I'm gonna make this part slightly longer to fit in the exposition.

“What do you mean?” Christy asked.

“We have to look for all my friends and their jewels!” exclaimed Natalie.

“That will take some time,” said Trish.

They all sat down quietly by the stream. After a good ten minutes of silence, Trish said, “I’m hungry!”

Meanwhile, the gobbie awakens and realizes the red jewel is gone. “Awake, awake my gobbie friends it is time to find a jewel again!” screamed the gobbie.

From beneath the flowers four more gobbies arose!

Trish, Natalie, and Christy sat down next to the stream. Natalie waved her wand and a nice little picnic lunch appeared.

Trish couldn’t believe the assortment of food. “Wow! Wow! Wow!” she said. “I have never seen strawberries so red!” said Christy.

“The least I can do.” said Natalie.

They all sat down an enjoyed their lunch.

Natale placed the jewel on her necklace. It immediately turned blue! Trish and Christy gasped!

“Wow!” said Christy. “That was amazing!”

Natalie spoke quietly, “Yes, but it can still be taken from me!” She explained in more detail about why it was so important to find her friends.

“Winter Willie and Jack frost created a special lock that can only be opened by all seven jewels. Once the lock to our kingdom is opened, we can find the Emerald of Secrets. This magnificant jewel creates a reverse charm spell that will surround our kingdom and repel their spells.”

“Why haven’t you used this before?” asked Christy.

Natalie explained that every six months the Emerald of Secrets is held up to the sun and the reverse charm spell is spoken an enacted.

“Someone forgot to speak the spell.” Natalie said saddly.

“Who was that?” asked Trish

“Me!” said Natalie. “I fell asleep, and I don’t know why. I just had a glass of milk and a donut, before I did the spell. The next thing I knew I was here, in the human world.”

I actually like most of the ideas for the Emerald of Secrets, which is why this turned into the concept of what I would call The Emerald of Secrets, and in the fantasy short story I made for my creative writing class, this concept of enacting a spell stayed the same.

I don't know why Christy and Trish were so fascinated by the gem changing colors on the necklace. They've seem much more fantastical things.

Also, how awkward was that ten minutes of silence?
