Chapter One

Stare them down

“Lucy,” I said to my best friend, Alexia Morgan, her sister Madison, her friend Nellie Newman, and my brother Michael.

“Kat,” said Maddie.

“Hannah,” said Mikey.

We were talking about who we should test to see if they had powers. All we had to do was look into their eyes. If their eyes glowed, then that means they have powers, like us.

“Not Hannah,” I said. “I think she would already know that she can control ice.”

Hannah is my older sister. She should already know that she has powers, since she is older than 10.

“Lucy and Kat it is,” Maddie said.

Lucy Karry is my friend, along with Alexia’s. (Alexia is the one who introduced us, actually) Kathleen Robinson, or Kat, is Madison and Nellie’s.

“Since Lucy doesn’t go to our school,” Alexia said. “I’ll try it on Sunday when I go to church.”

“I can always get together with Kat,” said Maddie. “Nellie and I are having a playdate on Saturday.”

Almost exactly a month ago, Alexia and I found out we had super powers. You aren’t allowed in the portal unless you are 10, and we both fell in on Alexia’s 10th birthday. Maddie, Nellie, and Mikey have special necklaces that let them go in even though they are not old enough.

“Are you talking about your powers?” a voice said.

We spun around. A girl with brown hair pulled back in a ponytail with light brown eyes was standing at the doorway. I looked like a younger version of her with freckles and blue eyes. This was my older sister, Hannah.

“You don’t have to hide it,” said Hannah. “I know exactly what you are talking about.” She looked at Mikey and me. “Aurora, you know what I’m thinking of. And Mikey, heat up the fire place! It’s winter for goodness sakes!”

Mikey lit up the fireplace.

“What powers do you have?” Hannah asked Alexia, Maddie, and Nellie.

“I have teleportation,” said Alexia. Pink swirled around her and she disappeared, and reappeared right next to Hannah.

“I can turn into different animals,” said Maddie. And with a flash of royal purple, she was a kitty cat. Another flash, and she was a human.

A dark blue force-field appeared around Nellie.

“Do you really want to stare people down like that?” asked Hannah. “You might just freak them out.”

“True,” said Alexia. “But we need a reason to do it.”

“Well,” I said. “You just have to look in them. Just have a fun time and look into their eyes when they smile!”

“Well,” said Alexia. “Better than freaking them out.”

Chapter two

Who’s first?

Sunday seemed a while away, since it was already Sunday when we decided to stare Lucy down. We had to wait a whole week! So not fair!

Saturday came forever, too. But it did, and when I got Alexia’s text, it was awesome!

Kat has powers!!!!! Maddie saw a yellow glow in her eyes! I checked it 2! I saw the same thing! I decided 2 give her a necklace. When should we go in the portal? Monday?

I texted her back:

That’s awesome! Monday sounds fine. I’ll ask mom if it’s OK.

Mom told me that I was allowed to go. Alexia texted me and said she could go. The next day, I got this text:

Lucy had a hot pink glow! She texted me that she could come with us! Hannah can come if she wants.

I asked Hannah if she wanted to come. She said yes. I texted her answer to Alexia:

Hannah said yes. We r going 2 have a blast 2morrow!

Chapter Three

To the school and into the portal

“Okay,” said Lucy. “Let me ask this again. Where exactly are we going?”

Monday came, and Alexia, Mikey, Maddie, Hannah, Nellie, and I were leading Lucy and Kat to the portal.

“It looks like we’re heading to school,” said Kat.

Lucy is Korean with shoulder-length black hair. Her dark brown eyes did have a hot-pink glow.

Kat has freckles on top of her pale skin. Her brownish blonde hair flowed down to her shoulders and her blue eyes glowed with a yellow light. This is honestly the first time meeting her.

“You’ll see soon enough,” said Nellie.

“Trust me,” said Alexia. “You’ll love it.”

Alexia looked at me and winked. Out of nowhere, her dark brown eyes glowed light pink.

Out of curiosity, I looked at Maddie’s eyes. Her blue eyes glowed royal purple. Nellie’s big blue eyes glowed royal blue, Hannah’s brown eyes glowed sea green, and Mikey’s light blue eyes glowed navy blue.

As if reading my mind, Alexia leaned over and whispered, “Your eyes glow lavender.”

Cool. I wondered if I looked in the mirror I would see that. Hmmm. Maybe I should try that at home.

“Here we are,” said Maddie.

Her voice snapped me out of my thoughts. I realized that we were at the school already.

“Ummm,” said Lucy. “I’m confused.”

“Me too,” said Kat. “Why are we here? It’s Winter Break.”

Alexia smiled. “Well, you are going to have a good winter break.”

We walked up to the portal.

“Consider this a Christmas present,” said Mikey.

“But Christmas isn’t until Wednesday,” said Lucy.

“Then it’s an early one,” said Mikey.

“Merry Christmas,” I said. And we jumped in.

Chapter Four

The secret

My least favorite part about the portal is that after you see rainbows, you get knocked out.

I hate getting knocked out. I feel so helpless

When I opened my eyes, HOORAY! Cloud Town! Golden City in the clouds!!!

Lucy and Kat were just waking up. “What happened?” Kat asked.

“We went through a magical, secret portal!” Nellie exclaimed.

“A WHAT?!?!?!?” Lucy screamed.

“A magical portal that takes only people with super powers in! Only people 10 or older can come in. But Nellie, Maddie, Mikey, and Kat can be in here because they have special necklaces that allow them in,” I explained.

“We have…” started Kat.

“…super powers?” finished Lucy.

We nodded.

Lucy and Kat looked at each other.

“AWESOME!” they screamed.

Yeah this is about the same quality as the previous two. And the text lingo is awful.
