SOTL Draft One/MARG - Ch1

Writer's picture: Kaylin AlexanderKaylin Alexander

I wrote MARG for a seventh grade English writing assignment, but I unfortunately don't remember what the assignment was. It was my first go at adapting fairy tales, but I was too... I dunno, nervous?... to make it a blatant adaptation. So what we have is instead one of the cringiest things I've ever written in my life.

Chapter One

“AAAAHHHH!” Alyssa Mooney screamed.

She was on a carriage that would take her to the castle, and a dragon just swooped down in front of her. Alyssa was on her way to MARG (Magical Academy for Royal Girls) and the Dragon Field was on the way.

Of course, when Alyssa heard of the Dragon Field, she thought that it was just called that. She didn’t know that it was literal!

Alyssa looked at the girl next to her, Hayley Alexander, who didn’t even seem fazed. “A dragon just flew by!” Alyssa screamed.

Hayley glanced at her. “Yeah,” she said. “Dragons. I saw them all the time.”

Alyssa sighed. Apparently, she was the only princess who never had seen a dragon! She was the princess of the kingdom Readaderia, where books were written. Hayley was the princess of the kingdom Herbora, where they made potions, where ingredients to the potions included dragon scales. So, of course, dragons lived in Herbora.

There was hundreds of thousands of kingdom in the land Joyasdalla, and each one was famous for something different. And every princess was invited to MARG to learn about being princesses and stuff like that.

“Are you excited?” a girl in front of Alyssa and Hayley said.

“Yes!” said Hayley. “Can’t wait!”

Alyssa shrugged. “I guess,” she said. “It’s just that, my kingdom isn’t that popular, no one likes reading nowadays. It’s all Xboxes and Wiis and Smartphones.”

The girl looked at her. “I love reading!”

“Me too,” said Hayley. “You know we have to read potions, right?”

Alyssa looked at them. “Really?!”

They nodded.

After a while, the three girls exchanged stories. The girl was Natasha Kindra of Foodorsia, the kingdom that was famous for its food.

“Please stay in your seats,” said the carriage driver. “We have arrived at MARG!”

Everybody looked out the carriage to see the school. There was a gate that had a giant sign:

Welcome to

MARG

The Magical Academy for Royal Girls!

Alyssa stared at the gardens. They were the most beautiful things she had ever seen. They had flowers of every type and color. And the castle…

The castle was made of beautiful diamonds that shined in the sunlight. It was breathtaking.

Natasha leaned over to Alyssa. “I heard that there are over a million rooms in that place!”

Alyssa stared at her new friend. “Really?” she said, her eyes wide.

Hayley leaned over. “Yeah, it’s true. My older sister, Rebekah, and her friends each counted the rooms on each story. They added them up and the answer was 1,352,698 rooms.”

Natasha and Alyssa stared at her. “Really?” asked Alyssa.

“Really,” said Hayley.

The carriage was at the castle now. The driver pulled in front of the castle and stopped the carriage. She turned around and said, “Ok, we’ve arrived! Everybody out!”

“Wahoo!!!!!!” all the girls screamed as they ran into the castle where they would have the time of their lives.

Ew.
