The Origins of School of the Legends

I don't know exactly why, but I've always had a soft spot for fairy tale retellings.
I think it's because there are so many ways to interpret and tweak the story and put your own self onto a familiar story. Also, a familiar backdrop allows for more time for character development.
However, I of course wanted to write a fairy tale parody since I was in fifth grade, at least in my memory. While there was no school project or Draft that I had in elementary school, I distinctly remember drawing myself and all of my friends as different fairy tale characters. So one could say this was the start.
When I was in seventh grade, however, I did write a short story for class that was loosely based in fairy tales. I wrote about a school for princesses that I called the Magical Academy for Royal Girls, or "MARG."
I didn't finish or even get far in MARG at all, and I am extremely thankful for that, because the six pages that do exist are terrible. I put a bunch of princesses from different kingdoms that each had its own gimmick, like "books" or "dental care" or "potions" or "food" which is really lame but whatever. Apparently the castle had over a million rooms in it, but I... doubt it? I don't think that makes sense.
I had three chapters, but nothing happened in any of them. I introduced a bunch of characters during a role call where I mentioned the first and last names of different princesses from different kingdoms with cringe-worthy names. I didn't even finish the role call. So there's really nothing here.
However, this did establish my fairy tale retelling as taking place at a school for magic. It's an idea that is a pretty basic concept, but MARG never reached the actual retelling idea, so I have no idea about how I would have gone about this.
Sorry this post was so short, but School of the Legends just has a much smaller emergence and growth than The Secret Portal, mainly lying in the background while I worked on the latter series over the years.
