Short Story Excerpt: TEOS: The Search for the Ruby Necklace - Ch5

Bit of a filler chapter.

Chapter Five

Gooey Gobbies

“Awesome!” Natalie exclaimed. “Then we must look for goo left from gobbies!”

“Gobbies?” asked Christy. She looked at Trish, who was more familiar with mythical creatures, but she looked just as confused.

“Mini-goblins,” answered Natalie. “They look just like them, only are fairy-size and are blue.”

“Blue?” asked Christy.

Natalie nodded.

“OK,” said Christy, who still hadn’t gotten over that the evil king’s name was Jacob. It didn’t sound threatening.

“They also leave goo wherever they go.”

“Goo?” asked Christy, shocked, and disgusted.

Natalie nodded again.

“Goo like that?” Trish said, pointing to a tree several yards away.

Natalie nodded, yet again. “Exactly like that.”

Christy wrinkled her nose. “Eww! They leave that wherever they go?”

Christy was getting tired of the nodding. “Yes, they do.”

“Why don’t we ever see the goo?” Christy asked. “Do they come to the human world often?”

This time, Natalie shook her head. “Gobbies never go into the human world. Neither do any of the other Warnogians. I think Johoby scent them here to prevent us from casting the spell or getting back home.”

Trish nodded like it made perfect since, which, of course, it didn’t.

But before Christy could ask any more questions, Natalie spoke up. “There should be a trail of goo where the gobbies have been, but we’ll have to look hard.” She flew off. Christy ran after her with Trish close behind, but they soon fell behind. Gym wasn’t their strongest subject.

Soon, Natalie must’ve realized the girls weren’t following them, because she turned around and flew back. “Oh, sorry! I forgot that humans can’t run as fast as fairies can fly.” She reached in her pocket and pulled out a vial with pinkish powder inside. “Well, I guess I’ll have to make you fairies.”

Christy’s mouth fell open. Before she could ask how that was possible, Trish squealed “Cool!” and Natalie dropped a drop of the pink powder on each of their heads. Then Christy felt the weirdest she had ever felt in her whole life.

There was a tingling sensation through her entire body--inside and out. The only thing she saw was pink.

Love how Natalie doesn't ask permission to change the species of these two girls.
