Chapter Three

Potter’s Stream

Trish was true to her word and showed up at exactly 10:00. Christy barely had time to throw on and orange skirt, a sky-blue shirt, a purple sweater, and sneakers when the doorbell rang.

“Ready to go to Potter’s Stream, Christy?” Trish asked, brightly. She was wearing a pink t-shirt, gray pants, and black boots.

Christy nodded.

Trish smiled. “Great! Come on!”

Trish led Christy to a field behind the school. There was a beautiful stream that shimmered like glass. Around the stream, were rocks that shown like silver and gold. The field was dotted with wild flowers of all different colors.

“It’s beautiful,” breathed Christy.

“I know, right?” Trish smiled. “There’s always been something about this place that makes it feel magical.”

Christy looked at her friend. “You know that there’s no such thing as magic, right?”

But Trish wasn’t looking at her. Instead, she was looking at Potter’s Stream with wide eyes. “Um….”

“What is it, Trish?” asked Christy.

When Trish didn’t answer, Christy looked at the stream. She gasped at what she saw.

Just above the stream, was a whirlwind. It was spinning around really fast, and was getting faster by the second. Christy couldn’t believe her eyes! Then, something about 4 inches tall tumbled out on the ground and the whirlwind disappeared.

“That was weird,” said Christy. “Is there anything else…?”

But before she could finish, she saw Trish on the ground next to the thing that fell out of the whirlwind.

“Trish…. What are you doing?”

Trish hesitated before she said, “I don’t believe it!”

“Believe what?” Christy asked, laying on the ground next to Trish. “What don’t…?” Then she saw it. “That’s impossible…” she whispered.

Well, not really impossible, if it was in front of her.

In front of her, was a tiny person with curly brown hair lying on the ground unconscious with shimmering red wings on her back.

I like how I kept their outfits nearly the same as I drew them originally.
