Chapter Nine

Training in the Basement

Liz nodded.

“EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” Aurora and I squealed.

“What kind of powers?”

“How long have we had them?”

“Why didn’t our parents tell us?”

Liz laughed. “Calm down, girls.” She turned to me. “Alexia, you’re power is teleportation.” She turned to Aurora. “Aurora, you can read minds.”

I stared at Aurora.

“What are you doing?” she asked.

“I am trying to teleport you to the other end of the room”

Aurora stared at me.

“What are YOU doing?”

“Trying to read your mind.”

Liz laughed. “You have to learn to use your powers,” she said. “That’s why I brought you here. Our basement is the training room.”

She pointed to the objects in the corner. “Those are for you to teleport, Alexia.” She pointed to the robots. “Those robots have a device that makes them have thoughts. You will practice reading them, Aurora.”

I ran to the pile. I stared at a book. I concentrated, focused, I cleared my mind of everything else. The book started to shimmer, sparkle, and glow pink! I was doing it! I was teleporting it! Then it stopped. Darn it!

Aurora was staring at a robot. I saw her concentrating really hard. Then there was a BANG and the robot she was staring at was smoking.

Liz jumped up and ran to the rescue with a fire extinguisher.

Chapter Ten

I’m Getting Freaked Out

An hour later we were still training. I managed to teleport the book 2 inches from its starting position. Aurora managed to read ½ of what the robot was thinking of. After that, we took a break.

“I didn’t know powers took so much work! I thought that they would come naturally.” I said.

“Don’t worry,” said Liz. “I felt the same way when my trainer trained me.”

“What’s your powers?” Aurora asked.

“I can see through walls.”

“Cool!” said Aurora.

“What did you practice with?” I asked.

“That,” Liz said, pointing to a brick wall. “My trainer would do an action behind the wall and I would see through the wall and tell her what she did.

At first it didn’t go so well. In one hour I only got one thing that she did right.”

“Does anybody else in this house have powers?” asked Aurora.

“Everybody in this house has them,” said Liz. “Charles has super hearing, Carla has levitation, and George has super speed.”

“What about our families?” I asked. “You said that they were inherited. What are their powers?”

“Alexia…” said Liz. “…your mom can take away pain, your dad has a literal photographic memory, and your sister, Madison, can turn into different animals.”

“Wow! I was hoping that Maddie had powers too!” I exclaimed.

Liz turned to Aurora. “Aurora…” she said. “…your mom has super vision, your dad has super strength, your brother, Mikey, has fire powers, and your sister, Hannah, has ice and snow powers.”

“Awesome!!!!!” we exclaimed.

“Now what are we going to do about that guy at the door?” asked Liz.

“I’m not sure,” I said. “What was he?”

“An evil sorcerer.” Liz answered.

Aurora and I looked at each other.

Yikes.

Chapter Eleven

A WHAT!?!?!?!?!?

A sorcerer? Wow. This place just gets weirder by the second!

“How will we defeat him?” Aurora asked.

“With our wits and powers,” said Liz. “Mostly our wits.”

“How?” I asked.

“Why?” Aurora asked.

“Our powers are an advantage,” said Liz. “But they aren’t the only thing that we have. We just have to decide HOW we use them.”

“Does anyone have a plan?” Aurora asked.

“I do,” I said. “But we are going to need everyone’s help. Here’s what we’re going to do….”

Chapter twelve

My (Crazy) Plan

I can’t believe I came up with this CRAZY idea! I was hyperventilating. Aurora must have seen this, because she tossed me a paper airplane.

I unfolded it into a note:

Alexia,

I am freaking out too. I don’t feel right with you freaking out. I don’t like it. Please stop. Just be the Alexia I know today.

Aurora

Seeing Aurora’s neat handwriting made me feel better. She is the best friend ever! Under Aurora’s note, I wrote one back to her:

Aurora,

Don’t be nervous. Your part is easy. I have the harder part. But you’re right. We trained a lot last night, but not enough. I’m just as nervous as you. Thank you for your concerns, but I’m OK. I am so lucky to have a friend like you.

I folded the paper airplane back up and tossed it back to her. Aurora unfolded it, read it and nodded.

“Does everyone know the plan?” I announced. Liz, Charles, Carla, George, and Aurora nodded. “Good. Get in your positions.”

The sorcerer could see us inside the windows so we can’t go near them. But we needed a look out, so we made Liz the look out since she can see through walls.

The thing is, the only place without a window isn’t near the door, it’s in a sound-proof room! So Charles will have to use his super hearing to hear her.

If Liz sees the sorcerer, Charles will give Aurora a signal to let her know that he is here. She will then read his mind to let us know what he’s planning so we know if all of this is really necessary. George (who is positioned in the back yard near a window so Aurora can give him a signal that he’s here) will then use his super speed to distract the sorcerer so Carla and I can sneak out of the house. When George sees us he will stop running. Carla will use her levitation to swirl him and throw him so he tells us who he is and why he’s doing this (in case he was lying in his head because he knew Aurora could read minds). If necessary, I will teleport him to a dungeon/jail/prison.

Now you can see why I’m so worried.

Okay, I went over this when I read this section aloud on my TikTok, but what the actual hell is that letter from Aurora? It's completely messed up. "I'm freaking out but you're not allowed to freak out because that makes me uncomfortable." WTF????? Why did I think this was okay and worthy of being the best friend ever??????? Alexia said she was hyperventilating and Aurora decided to comfort her by writing her a note telling her to stop because Aurora was uncomfortable?????

Wow that's horrible.
