SCENE SEVEN

(Rebel HQ holding cell. One of the Others is in shackles. He appears completely human except that he’s wearing a scaly body suit. Starling is in front of the cell. Enter Jason and Lincoln)

Jason: How did Astrid catch one?

Starling: We lured him into a trap. (He reaches into his pocket and pulls out a blue glowing gun) This fires energy blasts specifically tuned to the frequency that the Others. Miss Selvig has been working on them for awhile.

Jason: Why hasn’t she told us?

Lincoln: More importantly, how did she figure out the frequency that the Others vibrate at?

Astrid: (enters with Seb) It’s simple. All of the Others vibrate at an F-sharp, therefore, anything from...well, wherever they’re from, will vibrate at the same frequency. (she smirks as she reaches into her coat and pulls out a forked glowing purple device) One of the Others dropped this while we were disintegrating them the other day. We managed to tune the weapons we had already synthesized to their exact frequency. Now we can finally hit them.

(everyone stares at her in stunned silence)

Seb: Yeah, she had to explain it twice to me, too.

Lincoln: So, now that we have one of the Others, what can we do now.

Starling: Attempt to question it. We don’t know what language it speaks, or if it speaks at all. Find a way to communicate with it--no matter what it takes.

SCENE EIGHT

(in the hallway of the base. Sadie is skipping through the hall, singing)

Sadie: Sin[g]ing tangerines are running left in north Germany! Singing tangerines are running left in north Germany! Singing tan--

Jason: (enters) What are you doing out of the med bay?

Sadie: Med bay, shmed bay, J-Gray.

Jason: Sadie, Aaron needs to run more tests. Please go back. For me?

Sadie: Kitties need to come out. Singing tangerine are--

Jason: ENOUGH WITH THAT SONG ALREADY!

Sadie: Fine! Meany. (she stomps off. Seb enters.)

Seb: Any luck?

Jason: Seb, I don’t know what to do. I can’t get anything out of someone who’s babbling about kittens and singing fruit!

Seb: Jace, I know this is hard for you. I know she reminds you of her.

Jason: Is it that obvious?

Seb: I know it may be hard, but you need to let her go.

Jason: What? No. Seb, I can’t just forget about her.

Seb: Then don’t. Remember her. But let go. Would she want you to hang on?

Jason: Seb, I can’t. Let. Her. Go.

Seb: (sighs) Okay, anyways, I came here to tell you that I have an idea of how we can communicate with the Other.

Jason: Really? How?

Seb: We can try putting Sadie with him. Maybe she’d be able to communicate because of the experiments they conducted on her.

Jason: Well, it’s worth a try.

SCENE NINE

(Rebel HQ holding cell. The Other is still tied up. Enter Jason and Seb with Sadie)

Sadie: (sees the Other) No! No! NO! NO! (struggles to escape the grasp of Jason and Seb) NO! Nonononono!

Seb: Sadie, please stay calm. It’s going to be okay.

Jason: You’re perfectly safe. He’s not going to hurt you. We just need your help to talk to him. (Sadie calms down and nods, but still looks nervous. Jason and Seb lead her to the front of the Other’s holding cell)

Other: Owela, Eis Relim

Sadie: Owela, Owecalak.

Jason: What are they saying?

Seb: I have no idea.

Other: We raw hu srumps weno.

Sadie: Stnow neh we wit whis heem?

Other: Ilmis seananoreoo heroyee niar snerna.

Sadie: Ya won squabab Nealarts.

(the Other is silent)

Seb: I guess they’re done.

Jason: Sadie, what did he say?

Sadie: Kitty said it. Smooth tangerines are running left in north Germany!

Jason: Well, this is going to be harder than I thought.
