Chapter Six

Date: November 22nd, 2024 Time: No idea

Place: Is this a dungeon?!?!?!?!

Madison

Willie’s Powders of the Rainbow

Purple is my favorite color, which is probably why I was upset when William Nightingale threw the purple powder on us.

On my last chapter, I told you he threw the powder on us, but I didn’t tell you what it did. I think it knocked us out.

I’d guess that Will dragged us to wherever we are and took my phone, because I don’t see a canyon and I don’t have my phone.

I think it knocked us out.

It’s the only explanation, right? I mean, one minute, he through powder on us, and the next, I was waking up somewhere else.

I dreamed that I was a bird. Flying through the sky. I guess everyone has dreams that they were flying, but this seemed real. Of course, it wasn’t, I mean, I woke up here, and I think I would remember. Besides, I’ve had dreams that seemed real before. It wasn’t new.

Actually, I don’t see anything except the afternoon light coming in from a window near the ceiling. Did I forget to mention the ceiling? It’s about ten feet above my head. No problem.

I had to be in a dungeon.

Oh, no.

I was in a dungeon!

I came here to rescue my sister, not get captured myself! Or did I come here to save her? I guess I was kind of taken against my own will by Hannah. Were Lexi and Aurora here too? What about Mikey and Kelsey? They were with me when I was kidnapped by William Nightingale.

At least I think that’s what happened. I honestly don’t really remember.

“Mikey? Kelsey?” I called out as quietly as I could.

“Madison?” Mikey’s voice called out.

“Mikey? Maddie?” Kelsey’s said. “I was afraid I had become one with the darkness!”

I ran forward and hugged the first person-shaped thing I could find. I guessed it to be Kelsey, since Mikey was small for his age, and this person-shaped thing was about as tall as me.

Kelsey and I broke away. “Do you know what happened?”

My eyes soon adjusted to the dim light, and I semi-saw Mikey in a corner. He looked scared to death.

“What’s wrong?” I asked, walking over to him and sitting beside him.

“I was the first to wake up,” he began, “and I was on fire. I screamed and closed my eyes. When I opened them, the fire was gone, so it must’ve been a dream.”

Kelsey shuddered. “I had a dream that I was destroying everything in my path.” She sat down next to us. “Weird that we both had nightmares. Did you have one, Maddie?”

I racked my brain. Now that I was thinking about it, I actually did have a dream. “I was flying through the air.,” I said. “I think I was a bird.”

“Why do you get the good dream?” Kelsey asked, fake-punching my arm only half-joking.

A sound came from the opposite wall, and the three of us ran over stood us and started to slowly walk to where the sound came from. William Nightingale was standing there in a doorway with a box in his hand. I thought it was a little weird for there to be no bars, but whatever. [paragraph break] He opened the box. “Oh, good,” he William said, opening the box, “you’re awake.” He took out a bottle with sky-blue powder in it. He took out the cork and began to sprinkle the powder in front of us. For the first time, I realized that there was no wall between us.

As he sprinkled it the powder on the floor, it the powder floated up to the top, then back down. He put the cork back on, and I watched as the blue powder formed a solid glass wall.

“Who are you?” Mikey asked.

What are you?” I said.

William laughed an evil laugh. “I told you the truth Mister Jacobs. I’m William Nightingale. As for your question Miss Morgan, I’m a wizard. Very similar to your kind, but we use dark magic. And we actually earn it, by working for it; not birth.[paragraph break] I honestly did not know what the heck he was talking about. Was he saying we could use magic? I was eleven years old! I think I would know if I had powers by now, right? [paragraph break] He turned to Kelsey. “Hello, Miss Newman. You are the type of girl we need to recruit. You’d be helpful on our side.”

Kelsey stepped back. “But I don’t know any magic." Although, when she said this, I could still see her eyes shining in the dim light, as if the sound of learning magic sounded fun.

William laughed, as if her comment amused him. He reached back in the box and pulled out a bottle with red powder. He poured a handful in his hand and started to smear it on the glass. The powder dissolved into the wall.

“If you so much as breathe on this glass,” said William, closing the bottle, “alarms will go off.”

Kelsey, Mikey, and I stepped back about a foot.

William took out another powder—white this time—then a green powder, then a dark blue powder. He sprinkled a pinch of the white and pinch of dark blue on himself. Then he stepped through the glass wall.

The three of us backed up against the nearest wall as William started to fly. When he reached the ceiling, he rubbed some green powder on it. Then the ceiling started to grow.

William flew back through the wall as we watched in dismay as our only escape through the ceiling got higher, and higher, and higher, until the only way we could escape was to fly.

“How many powders do you have?” Kelsey asked, clearly intrigued at the thought. I had known Kelsey since second grade, and I knew how much she loved the idea of magic.

William shrugged. “Haven’t counted. But I already used something.” He pulled out another bottle with indigo powder inside. “This. It blocks out sound. Remember that house Miss Hathaway brought you to? I rubbed this powder all over the door. There was no way they could hear her knocking.” He sighed. “It only lasts five minutes, but it was just enough for you to come and knock on the door.” He sighed again. “Pity Miss Hathaway had to stay behind. I could’ve used her as a fourth experiment.”

Well, this chapter was actually at least decent.
