Short Story Excerpt: TEOS: The Search for the Ruby Necklace - Prologue
Now we start my attempt at adapting Natalie the Necklace Fairy to a story separate from the Rainbow Magic series, although keeping faithful to the original fanfic. I titled it The Emerald of Secrets and planned to make it a series, the first book titled The Search for the Ruby Necklace.
Prologue
Jacob creaked the door open just a tad. He HAD to get that Emerald! If he didn’t, Warnog would fall, and the citizens of Teria would rule the world. But first he had to get rid of the guards.
That would be easy. All seven guards were young girls. Sure, they had special powers, but to Jacob, they were naïve. Girls? Pfft! Easy to deal with. This was the house of that curly-haired brunette. What was her name? Natasha… Nellie…Nicky… Jacob didn’t remember. Frankly, he didn’t care. It didn’t matter. This was her house.
At high noon today, the seven guards would gather in the center of town--with the Emerald. Jacob couldn’t--no, wouldn’t--allow that. If at least one of them wasn’t present, all the Terians would be helpless.
Jacob crept inside the house. He slowly closed the door behind him. He crept in the dining room. On the table was the usual Terian morning snack: milk and donuts. Jacob tried to not grab the donut for himself and grabbed the goblet from the bag on his shoulder. Inside was a purplish liquid. Carefully, he poured the liquid on the donut. The liquid fizzed for a second, then disappeared. He was about to turn and leave when he heard the voice of a young girl. “Hello?! Is someone there?”
Jacob froze. It was the owner of the house. No worry. He had just the right solution in the bag. He reached in and grabbed the greenish powder, then walked confidently into the entry way.
The curly-haired brunette was standing in the door way. She gasped when he walked in. “Jacob! I should’ve known you’d try to ruin today! This is the one day in seven years we can do the ceremony! Why do you want to stop us?”
Jacob grinned. He opened the bottle of green powder and looked back at the girl. “I’d tell you, but then you’d forget.” He threw the powder on the girl and she froze. Jacob smirked. Now she would never remember his presence. She would eat the donut, and the ceremony would be ruined.
He looked at her necklace. It was somewhere on there. A spell was put on it, but it was there. Carefully, he unhooked her necklace and placed it in his bag. He’d figure out which one it was later.
He stepped outside. He saw a few citizens of Warnog, well- hidden from the Terians. Once they got rid of all seven guards, the Emerald couldn’t be activated, and Warnog would rule over Teria.
Everything was going as planned.
Starting the book off from the villain's POV is really interesting, but Jacob? Really? I couldn't have picked a better name?
