Character Introduction: Wade Attwood

Today I introduce y'all to Wade Attwood:

Wade is a charismatic teen and a natural-born leader. He's extremely confident and isn't afraid to stand up for what he believes in. He can easily read people and understand what they're all about, and draw connections between things most people would miss. He draws an audience naturally, gets emotionally invested in everyone around him, and has an unfaltering desire to do good and never let anyone down, which sometimes makes him a little too selfless--making promises that are impossible to keep. Despite taking criticism to heart and everyone's problems onto himself, he's good at maintaining his stress, allowing himself to detach his emotions if the situation calls for it. He's independent, self-confident, and very optimistic. His healing powers allow him to have a protective, defensive nature over his friends, even if they aren't as good for offense as he'd like. He's reliable, will see things through until the end, and very loyal and devoted to his loved ones, despite a tendency to be overbearing.

Fun fact, Wade was the first explicitly LGBTQ+ character I ever wrote! I'd conceived of another for an idea that's barely been put on paper, so she's technically my first queer character, but Wade gets the medal for being the first I ever stated to be so. Now, if you've been following my previous blog posts, you probably noticed most of the characters have a flag in the background. That's what happens when you're a queer teen who has no idea she's queer and accidentally writes most OCs as such. But back to Wade, I ended up giving him his own plot in my draft of Part Three of The Secret Portal, but he himself didn't end up doing much in it, so as I planned things for Part Four and revising Part Three, I ended up coming up with a much more compelling arc for him, and something that I'm proud of, although I'm still working out the details in Part Four and Five.
