Niri is an artistic teen who is charming despite his shyness. He's unpredictable, spontaneous, and very aesthetically gifted. He uses his hydrokinesis very precisely, using his subpower to make extremely detailed ice sculptures. He's very empathetic, although he is independently driven to live his life the way he wants: present, in the moment, and just enjoying life. As long as he has the independence to express himself, he will be happy, as he hates being shoved into a box with no escape. If things get too intense and out of control, he tends to shut down completely and retreat into the safety of his own head. Despite being withdrawn, Niri does desperately want to communicate with people, and is shocked whenever someone expresses a desire to do so. Surprising to most, he tends to be over-competitive, which is a spark few tend to see. He feels like he can't get a firm grasp on what he wants his future to be, and he struggles to focus on a single goal. He is hyper-aware of all the problems and mistakes he's made in life, and is strongly influenced by societal pressures. Nonetheless, Niri remains a vibrant individual, even if he seldom gets the chance to express that.
Niri is a hard but interesting character to write. At the point of the series I'm in now, Niri is more closed off than not, but I love the small moments where people get to interact with him and get to experience the personality underneath his layers. His name used to be Stephen Spader, and then eventually Stephen Shyaka, but the former flowed a bit more. Eventually, I settled on the name Nirini, since his personality had changed so much. He used to exclusively have cryokinesis, but I ended up combining that power with hydrokinesis because I didn't find it necessary to split the two of them up. I love planning Niri's role in the series, because I was stuck on that for a while until one day it just clicked. Every day, I find myself excited for what his character has in store for the future.
