Character Introduction: Kelsey Newman

Today I talk about Kelsey Newman!

Kelsey is a sweet and sensitive girl under several layers of sass and sarcasm. Despite outward persona, she is empathetic and remembers small details about everyone she meets. She's stubborn, and hates unexpected change, but open to change if a loved one has a strong enough will and personality to do so. She has a strong desire to help people, even if she doesn't want anyone to know that, suppressing feelings that need to be expressed, which leads to stress and anger to build up until her vaguely-defined powers of essokinesis explode out of her. She always goes above and beyond expectations, but doesn't allow anyone to give her credit for doing so. She's good at putting herself in other's shoes if the situation allows for it, although she does take a lot of people's actions personally. She has a hard time separating her personal life from everything else and has impossibly high standards she wants to live up to. She's shy when meeting new people, but expresses herself, especially physically, when she truly connects with someone.

Kelsey used to be "Nellie" in previous drafts, but her powers were much different. In Draft One, I have her the ability to fly, but in Draft Two, she gained force fields. By the time Draft Three rolled around, I have her powers that I called "magic," as I couldn't really think of anything else to describe it as. I didn't know what to call her powers when Draft Four rolled around, except for "reality warping," but I soon discovered the official term for that was "essokinesis," which I was glad that I found out this existed. Out of people who have read Draft Four or even Five, a lot of them really love Kelsey's narration. She's rather blunt and sarcastic despite her ultimately caring nature, and she's an absolute blast to write for.
