Character Introduction: Jazlyn Nyambura

Today, I introduce the lovely Jazlyn Nyambura:

Jazlyn is an extremely smart and energetic young woman who always has an immediate impact on the world around her. She's extremely perceptive of small changes and loves to be the center of attention. Her passionate and indulgence in risky behavior tend to make her pyrokinesis more chaotic, but she has enough control and rapid-fire perception of time to make the split-second decisions necessarily to keep her powers in check. She's down-to-earth and blunt with a strong sense of humor, who lives for the thrill and stimulation of her mind, who is always careful enough to fix any mistake. She loves hands-on work and breaking the status quo, seeing rules as obstacles that limit living life to its absolute fullest. She's aware of the physical reality of her world, and will notice if someone's physicality or behavior changes, usually immediately pointing this out. She loves to experiment with her world, and her intelligent mind often gets distracted by its many observations and thrill-seeking tendencies. She's extremely creative and an out-of-the-box thinker, but very impatient with her problems, often avoiding them and hoping they leave her alone.

Jazlyn has always been such a fun character to write, and I loved giving her more stuff to do when I reached drafting Part Three of my Fourth Draft. Originally, I had her named Jazlyn Carter, which soon became Jazlyn Curtis once I realized I had another character named Carter (whose name ironically has changed, to Diwali). But in Draft Five I decided to give my POC characters ethnic surnames because I wanted to, and I think Nyambura is a beautiful replacement. As I plan out Draft Five, I absolutely love what I am doing with her character. Her creativity, spontaneity, intellect, and chaotic but controlled nature combined with pyrokinesis is extremely fun to write for, since I have to think out of the box to figure out what Jazlyn would do with her powers, coming up with moves that are untraditional to do with fire.
