Today, y'all get introduced to James Cole Reynolds:

Cole is a blunt and hard-working teen who is a strong believer in law, authority, and consistency. He's well aware of his surroundings and is very straight-forward and hands-on with his environment, ironic considering his powers of intangibility. He does not hesitate to show his wrath toward people who cheat or lie or are just downright lazy, at least in his point of view, and it doesn't help that he often isn't taken seriously. He is, however, a very good team player if everyone is doing what they're supposed to be doing, and always gives it his all. However, he does tend to be stubborn and slightly self-centered, as he always believes his way of doing things is the most efficient way. He's very blunt and values honestly, always proving himself to be very reliable and realistic. He's obsessed with predictability, getting uneasy if something changes, as that makes things unreliable and messes with his structured environment, which increases his stress. He often gets very caught up in public opinion, hyper-aware of how people see him, but his honest nature allows him to still be himself, and his over-dismissal of opinions becomes a coping mechanism. However, this makes him very easy to provoke, as he's not afraid to stir up conflict, and stand up for himself, although his ambition and doubt often collide into a disaster. He holds grudges, needs people a lot more than he'd like to admit, is always ready to fight, and overall down-to-earth.

Cole was originally called Cole Johansen, but I switched it when I swapped his and Issa's role (see previous post) in a late stage of Draft Four of The Secret Portal. Cole was probably one of the blandest characters I had in this particular group, and I could not find a clear personality for him at all. Then, like I said in Issa's post, I swapped his height with her, and suddenly their personalities solidified. I have no idea why that tactic work, but it did. Character design is a lot of fun, and helps with the vibe and energy they have, so by switching their heights I changed their vibe, and suddenly their characters flourished. I originally gave Cole telepathy, but I switched it to intangibility because I thought I had too many telepaths, and I wanted an intangible on the team.
